Terms of Service
Version 2026-10-22 · Effective 22 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Michael Coen, a sole trader in Ireland trading as Set The Bar ("we", "us"), for your use of the Set The Bar app and website (the "service"). By creating an account you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we use your personal data. Joining the waitlist on the website is covered by the waitlist privacy notice, not by these terms.
1. Who can use the service
You must be 16 or over. You must give accurate information when you sign up, including your date of birth. One account per person.
2. Your account
You sign in with a 6-digit code sent to your email, or with Sign in with Apple. Keep access to your email and Apple ID secure: anyone who can read your sign-in codes can sign in as you. Tell us at support@yousetthebar.com if you think someone else has used your account.
3. What the service does
The service lets you find outdoor calisthenics spots, check in, log sets with your phone's camera, and compare results on each park's boards. Most of it is free. Set The Bar Pro is an optional subscription with more features (section 4). Nothing that's free now will become paid without notice. Features may change, and we may add, change or remove them.
4. Set The Bar Pro
Set The Bar Pro is an optional subscription that adds features to the service. The Pro screen in the app (You → Set The Bar Pro) lists what's included, and which features are still to come.
- Price. €2.99 a month or €19.99 a year, VAT included, as the app shows before you pay. Pro is sold in Ireland.
- The free month. Each plan starts with one month free, once per Apple ID. If you don't cancel before it ends, the subscription starts and you're charged.
- Paying. You buy Pro through the App Store, and Apple takes the payment under its own terms. We never see your card details.
- Renewing. It renews automatically at the end of each month or year unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. If the price goes up, Apple tells you first, and you can cancel before it applies.
- Cancelling. Cancel any time in your iPhone's Settings → your name → Subscriptions. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Refunds. Apple handles refunds: ask at reportaproblem.apple.com. Your rights as a consumer, including to cancel a purchase within 14 days where the law gives you that right, are handled by Apple under its terms.
- Your account. Pro belongs to the Set The Bar account you bought it with. An Apple ID's subscription that belongs to another account won't give Pro to this one.
- Fair play. Pro never changes how a set is counted or verified, or where it ranks. Nothing that decides a verified set is for sale.
- Changes to Pro. Pro's features may change over time. If we remove a significant Pro feature, we'll tell you, and you can cancel.
- Deleting your account doesn't cancel the subscription. Cancel it in Settings first, or Apple keeps charging you.
5. Exercise and safety
Exercise carries a risk of injury. You train at your own risk.
- Check equipment before you use it. Bars in parks belong to councils and other owners, not to us. We don't inspect or maintain them, and a spot appearing in the app doesn't mean its equipment is safe.
- Stop if you feel pain, dizziness or discomfort. If you have a medical condition, ask a doctor before starting a new training routine.
- Nothing in the service is medical or professional advice. Rep counts and rankings are for motivation and fun. Form tips (Set The Bar Pro) are general pointers about the standard, worked out on your phone from how your reps were measured. They aren't medical, physiotherapy or coaching advice.
- Place your phone where it's stable and out of the way, and keep clear of other people while you train. Be aware of your surroundings at public spots, and follow any rules posted there.
6. How reps are counted
- The app counts your reps automatically, on your phone, from the camera. It judges each rep against published standards for the exercise, which you can read in the app ("What counts") before every set.
- The count can be wrong. It depends on the light, the camera angle and what the camera can see. Some faults, like your grip or your feet touching the ground, can't be judged by a camera at all. We keep improving the counting, and the standards may be updated; each set keeps the rules it was counted with.
- The app finds the bar for you, from your hands and the camera picture. Nobody, including us, can move it for a single set.
- Practice and Compete. Practice sets can be logged anywhere and never go on a board. Compete sets need you to be checked in at the park, and use the full competition rules: for example, resting more than 3 seconds at the bottom or top of a rep ends the set.
7. Boards and fair play
Submitting Compete sets for the boards is coming soon. When it arrives:
- Compete sets must be logged in the app, live, at the spot, with your own body. Videos from your photo library, edited videos and anyone else's sets aren't allowed.
- We verify every Compete set before it goes on a board. We count the reps again from the video with the same rules, and check the location and that the request came from the genuine app. We may use automated tools, including AI, and a person may review it. Only verified sets appear on the boards.
- Our count is the one that counts. If our verification counts differently from your phone, the verified count is used. You can ask for a person to review the decision on any set by contacting us.
- Cheating includes faking your location, tampering with the app, editing or replaying videos, recording someone else, and coordinating fake results. If we find it, we may remove results, reset records, or suspend or close your account.
8. Your content
"Your content" means anything you add: spots, suggested edits, photos, videos, your profile and your results.
- You keep ownership of your content.
- You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, copy, analyse and display your content to run the service. That includes verifying sets, showing spots and photos to other users, and showing your results and profile on the boards. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account. It continues only for copies we're required to keep by law, or that are in backups waiting to be overwritten, and for spots you added, which stay on the map without your name.
- Videos of Compete sets aren't shown to other users. Only you and our moderators see them.
- You must have the right to post what you post. Don't post photos of other people without their permission, and never of children.
- Map data. Some spot information comes from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, Open Database License), and some spots were placed with the help of Mapillary imagery (CC BY-SA 4.0). That information stays under its own licence. The maps themselves are Apple's.
9. Community guidelines
Follow our Community Guidelines. In short: be respectful, be honest, never share where someone else is, and keep photos appropriate. We may remove content that breaks these terms or the guidelines. Report and Block are coming to the app; until then, tell us about anything that breaks the guidelines at support@yousetthebar.com.
10. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time: email support@yousetthebar.com, or, once it arrives, use You → Settings and privacy → Delete my account. If you have Set The Bar Pro, cancel it in your iPhone's Settings first: deleting your account doesn't stop Apple charging you. We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or to protect other users or the service. Where it's safe to, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
11. Our responsibility to you
- We provide the service with reasonable care and skill, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free, that rep counts are always right, or that spot information is accurate.
- We're not responsible for losses caused by events outside our reasonable control, or for losses that weren't foreseeable when you started using the service.
- Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited under Irish law. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect and ask you to accept it. If you don't accept, you can delete your account.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of Ireland. You can bring proceedings in the courts of Ireland. If you live in Northern Ireland or elsewhere in the EU, you may also bring proceedings where you live, and you keep the protection of that place's mandatory consumer laws.
